Apple has asked its suppliers to make 90 million iPhone 14 units

Apple has ordered 90 million iPhone 14 units from its suppliers. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth intends to produce approximately 220 million iPhones in total in 2022, the same number as last year. The most recent information comes from Bloomberg, which cites people familiar with the situation. Because of the global economic slowdown, Apple is banking on demand from affluent customers and less competition in the smartphone market.

According to IDC, the global smartphone market will contract by 3.5 percent in 2022, after falling by 9 percent in the June quarter of this year. Apple's projections indicate that it is confident in its ability to weather the storm. Huawei poor performance has weakened competition in the premium smartphone market. Additionally, Android phone shipments are declining.

Apple has kept new iPhone sales at around 75 million units until 2021. It raised its target to 90 million units last year in anticipation of increased demand due to the decline of COVD-19. According to Bloomberg, the percentage increase in iPhone sales will remain in the "single digits" for the foreseeable future.

Next month, Apple is expected to reveal four iPhone 14 models. The Pro models will reportedly have a new front design, an improved selfie camera, a new rear camera, and a faster A16 processor.
