It's a safe guess that the iPhone 13 will be released this month. Apple has yet to announce a date for the unveiling of its next iPhone, but with September being the customary launch month, excitement for the iPhone 13 is growing. With the continual drumbeat of leaks and rumors, we're getting a better idea of what the new iPhone will look like and what its primary features will be.
According to what we've heard so far, the iPhone 13 will include a 120Hz LTPO display on both Pro variants, as well as increased battery life and significant improvements to the all-important cameras. A new portrait video option and astrophotography mode are among the new features. In addition, the iPhone 13 may be able to communicate through satellite (though that feature may not be fully available until next year).
As for the design of the iPhone 13, we've heard the new iPhone shrinks on all models. (And yes, like with the iPhone 12, we expect four variants.) . Finally, we could also see an ever-present display with the upcoming iPhone.
Here's all we know about the new iPhone 13 based on all the speculations and leaks that have already surfaced.
Latest iPhone 13 news
People are freaking out that an notchless new iPhone has been spotted in a Ted Lasso episode, but we don't think it's legit.
A new report from an Apple analyst claims that the iPhone 13 may offer satellite communications for the first time.
iPhone 13 release date
Despite the iPhone 12's coronavirus-related delays, which pushed its sale date to October 13, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the iPhone 13 will resume its regular production schedule in 2021. That suggests the game will be released in September.
The iPhone 13 is also expected to lead a parade of Apple product debuts in the fall, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who is well-versed in Apple's machinations. Another speculation, this time from DigiTimes, suggested that Apple might have multiple events in September.
Apple announced a year ago that the iPhone 12 will not be released in September. Apple, on the other hand, did not mention any potential delays while releasing its June quarter profits, implying that the iPhone 13 launch is on schedule. Apple did mention supply difficulties, but those aren't expected to impede any launch dates for its new phones.
On the fourth Friday of September 2021, if the iPhone 13 release date is following Apple's past launch trend, we can see it reach the standard. It'd be 24 September. A Front Page Tech article confirmed that on September 24 the iPhone 13 would commence with pre-order commencing on September 17.
In various sources, analyst company Wedbush claims that the iPhone 13 will be released in the third week of September. If that's a reference to when Apple will host its announcement event, the new phones should be available on September 24.
Apple has apparently struggled to hire staff, and its suppliers have been upping bonuses to entice enough personnel to satisfy demand, so wait times for the iPhone 13 could be long at launch. And demand could be high, as one survey of iPhone owners in the United States revealed that 44% desire to buy the iPhone 13.
iPhone 13 price
When it comes to pricing, we predict the iPhone 13 will be priced similarly to the iPhone 12 — $699, $799, $999, and $1,099, respectively. Apple's pricing for each new iPhone generation tends to be similar to that of the previous one.
According to a June report by TrendForce, the iPhone 13 should be priced "roughly on par" with existing iPhone 13 versions. Unfortunately, the iPhone 13 Pro models will not feature a 1TB storage option, according to the company. According to a recent report, Apple chip supplier TSMC may raise its production prices, which could mean Apple would pass those costs on to its customers. It's unclear whether this will affect the iPhone 13 or whether it will have to wait till the iPhone 14.
Look for a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 small, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max in the same four sizes as the iPhone 12: a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. The new iPhones were revealed in regulatory filings with the Eurasian Economic Commission; the filing listed seven models, though alternative configurations could be included.
Despite the fact that the iPhone 12 mini did not sell well, rumours suggest Apple may introduce an iPhone 13 mini (though not everyone is convinced an iPhone 13 mini is a good idea).
Assume we'll see four iPhone 13 versions in the fall, all of which will be part of the iPhone 13 family. A 5G-ready iPhone SE isn't expected until next year, and a foldable iPhone Flip isn't expected for another two years.
iPhone 13 name
Since Apple shifted from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 12 last year, early reports about this fall's iPhone have used iPhone 13 as the name for the upcoming iteration. The iPhone 12s has been mentioned in a few rumors as the latest iPhone.
While we won't know for sure what Apple's phones will be called until they're released, one rumour indicates Apple will stay with the iPhone 13 nomenclature. According to the Economic Daily News, the iPhone 13 line-up will be similar to the iPhone 12 in terms of name structure and models, citing sources and supply chain inspections. Apple is also expected to utilize the iPhone 13 brand for its forthcoming devices, according to Bloomberg's Gurman.
The "s" model of iPhones meant that the phone was largely similar to the previous year's model, with a few major enhancements. So whether Apple calls this year's phone the iPhone 12s or iPhone 13, it will reveal a lot about how different it is.
Surprisingly, 18.3 percent of 3,000 Apple users polled by SellCell stated they would be hesitant to purchase an iPhone 13 because the number 13 is considered unlucky.
The majority of respondents preferred naming the phones after the year they were released, with 38 percent opting for the less-than-Apple-like iPhone (2021). 16 percent felt the business should move on to iPhone 21 right away.
iPhone 13 design
Apple Insider got their hands on a set of iPhone 13 fake units, and they reveal some of the most significant design changes. This features a new diagonal camera configuration for the normal iPhone 13 and a larger camera module for the iPhone 13 Pro, as well as shifting the speaker to the top of the smartphone.
The SIM card slot appears to be sliding down as well, and the power buttons may be moving down as well.
A separate iPhone 13 case leak appears to validate several of the above changes, including the new iPhones' probable size, camera modules, and notch. In reality, the notch may be reduced by 25%.

Sonny Dickson has also allegedly released further iPhone 13 dummy units. They only show the rear of Apple's lineup, but they appear to confirm rumors that the iPhone 13 will include a diagonal camera setup.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max may also be slightly larger than its predecessor. In fact, a rumored iPhone 13 Pro cover depicts a far larger camera module, though this has yet to be confirmed.
After multiple generations of using the same, rather hefty notch, various leaks and reports have been tipped to the iPhone 13 with a smaller display note. Most people applaud such a modification, however some Apple observers wonder whether a reduced score is enough to satisfy the devotees of the iPhone.
After several generations of using the same, somewhat large notch, a number of leaks and reports were typed into the iPhone 13 with a smaller display note. Most people are welcome, even when a few Apple observers wonder whether a smaller size is sufficient for iPhone fans to satisfy their needs.
Apple will apparently do this further reduction of the current infrarot lighting, sensor and point light, which form the Face Id unlocking system of the iPhone 12, by combining in a single module this currently separated infrarot flood illuminator. We should see a much smaller sample on the iPhone 13 with two fewer sensors necessary.
According to an iPhone 13 Pro Max fake device showing off the revised design and reduced notch, the earpiece speaker could no longer be housed in the notch and would instead be moved to the top bezel. Another iPhone 13 Pro dummy unit (supplied by Mac Otakara) shows a narrower notch on the front, which is also based on the same design. The modification appears to be confirmed by leaked glass screen protectors.
This year's iPhone 13 Pro Max will be somewhat thicker than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, according to the dummy unit. According to subsequent iPhone 13 blueprints, all iPhone 13 models will be thicker than their iPhone 12 counterparts, with larger camera arrays.
Ian Zelbo, a concept artist, has also developed iPhone 13 renders, this time based on CAD information from leaker Jon Prosser. The diagonal camera lens array and tiny notch are visible once more.
iPhone 13: No Touch ID?
According to a slew of leaks and reports, the iPhone 13 will include an under-display Touch ID system. Recent sources have raised doubt on this idea, with some claiming that Apple would not introduce under-display Touch ID until the iPhone 14 next year. Having an additional kind of biometric security would be quite nice at a time when mask-wearing is rampant.
The most recent allegation comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who claims that Apple will not include in-display Touch ID in the next iPhone 13.
"While Apple had tried in-screen Touch ID for the next flagship iPhones, it won't make the cut this year," according to the report. Apple is all-in on Face ID for its higher-end iPhones, according to Gurman, and the long-term goal is to integrate Face ID into the display itself.”
This isn't great news, but the iPhone 13 might feature an enhanced version of Face ID that makes it easier to unlock the phone while wearing a face mask. Apple could be reacting to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on our daily routines, even if it isn't as good as having a secondary biometric scanner.
iPhone 13 colors
According to the most recent iPhone 13 colors rumor, the iPhone 13 Pro would be available in four colors. Black, silver, rose gold, and sunset gold are some of the options.
The basic iPhone 13 may be available in pink, however this is only a rumor based on a render. We had heard that the iPhone 13 Pro would come in two new color options: matte black and a new bronze or orange tint. Max Weinbach, a tipster, is the source of both of the latter rumors. If you want to learn more, we have a little iPhone 13 colors roundup.
iPhone 13 display
Apple could make other tweaks to the phones' panels if they remain the same display sizes as the iPhone 12. According to ET News, Apple will use a 120Hz refresh rate on the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max, with leaker Ice Universe labeling the iPhone 13 Pro Max as 120Hz as well. Smoother scrolling, improved gameplay, and video playback will all be possible as a result of this.
A new leak has added fuel to the rumors that the iPhone 13 will include an LTPO panel, which will be manufactured by Samsung Display. Samsung is also giving Apple with circuit boards to connect the display to the phone's motherboard, indicating that an LTPO screen is in the pipeline.
Because an LTPO panel doesn't require any additional components under the display to enable adaptive refresh rate, phones with such displays can have a slimmer chassis. An LTPO display in the iPhone 13 could allow the phone to have an extremely smooth refresh rate while maintaining the iPhone 12's tidy frame.
Improved power consumption is another advantage of LTPO. According to a DigiTimes story, the LTPO panels Samsung and LG are developing for the iPhone 13 Pro variants will cut battery usage by 15% to 20%.
According to other rumors, the iPhone 13 would have an always-on display, which the LTPO technology could help with. An iPhone with an always-on display is demonstrated in a video. An always-on display would provide Apple's iPhones a feature that Android phones have had for a while, allowing you to check the clock, battery life, and possibly notifications.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone 13 will feature an always-on display, however it's unclear whether this would be for the iPhone 13 Pro or all iPhone 13 models.
iPhone 13 specs
We may expect a processor boost for the iPhone 13 over its predecessor, just as night follows day. It's expected that this will come in the shape of the A15 Bionic, a successor to the iPhone 12's extremely powerful A14 Bionic.
This new system-on-a-chip (SoC) could be a good upgrade for the A14 Bionic, as it will likely improve overall performance and efficiency. A big update isn't expected until the iPhone 14, when Apple could use a 4-nm fabrication node to create a processor. The A14 Bionic chip in the iPhone 12 is currently a 5nm processor.
Apple is said to have placed an order for more than 100 million A15 chips, indicating that demand for the forthcoming iPhone 13 is much higher than for the iPhone 12.
The iPhone 13 is expected to include storage options ranging from 64GB to 512GB, yet according to a Wedbush report, the iPhone 13 could have up to 1TB of storage. That would make it the iPhone with the most inbuilt storage ever.
In terms of wireless connectivity, the iPhone 13 could see a significant upgrade. According to documents from Apple's Qualcomm settlement, Apple intends to incorporate Qualcomm's X60 5G modem in next iPhones, which will most certainly include the iPhone 13. (Apple-made modems aren't expected until 2023.)
The 5nm X60 modem may be directly integrated into a phone's SoC, resulting in a reduced footprint and lower battery consumption. Furthermore, because the modem can simultaneously combine mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks, 5G performance should be improved.
In addition, the iPhone 13 is expected to include Wi-Fi 6E, a variant of the Wi-Fi 6 standard that will allow for even faster wireless connectivity.
iPhone 13 Cameras
Starting with reports that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will have a new 6-element ultrawide lens, we've heard a lot about the iPhone 13 cameras. A 5-element ultrawide angle lens is included in the latest iPhone 12 Pro versions. In general, the more elements in a lens, the greater the image quality.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claims that the iPhone 13 Pro series' ultrawide camera would have autofocus for the first time. Images should be sharper as a result of this. Unfortunately, according to Kuo, these changes will not be available until the iPhone 14.
Unbox Therapy has a purported iPhone 13 Pro Max dummy device that shows an iPhone with considerably larger lenses. This should allow more light in, resulting in better shots in low-light situations.
Another supposed iPhone 13 Pro shot, this time released on Twitter by leaker Majin Bu, confirms this, displaying what appears to be a larger camera module overall.
This aligns with earlier rumours claiming that the iPhone 13's camera will receive a significant hardware upgrade. For instance, analyst Ross Young predicts that the upcoming Apple phone will have larger sensors.
Larger sensors mean larger pixels, which means more light is absorbed, resulting in higher-quality photos. Unfortunately, it's unclear which iPhone 13s will be equipped with these sensors, since the iPhone 12 Pro Max came with a larger sensor in the autumn.
Ming-Chi Kuo has also projected that the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will have bigger apertures on their ultra-wide cameras. Both phones, according to Kuo, will have an f/1.8 aperture, up from f/2.4 on the iPhone 12. When combined with a six-element lens, this means more light will enter the camera, improving image quality.
Sensor-shift stabilization, which is presently only featured on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is expected to be added to all iPhone 13 models. This is a step up from optical image stabilization, and it should result in smoother footage, among other things.
According to one interesting rumor, Apple is seeking for suppliers for a "folded lens" camera that will boost the iPhone 13's optical zoom. Because of the periscope-like design, the telephoto lens is stacked vertically rather than horizontally, allowing you to boost optical magnification without expanding the phone's size. However, it's probable that this feature won't be available until the iPhone 14 next year.
The iPhone 13 is also expected to receive camera enhancements that will enable it to better capture the night sky and provide portrait mode films. A specialized astrophotography option could be enabled via an enhanced ultrawide camera on all iPhone 13 models. This mode will activate when you point your phone at the stars or the moon, just like night mode does when you're in a low-light area.
When enabled, Portrait video mode may provide a blurred background on video footage. It will also reportedly allow you to adjust the depth of field after the fact, allowing you to dial in the blurred effect after the fact. There are no details on whether this can be utilized on all or just a couple of the iPhone 13's cameras.
LiDAR sensors could be included on the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, rather than simply the Pro models, as a final addition. This sensor aids in autofocus and augmented reality performance. On Twitter, leaker Dylandkt claims that LiDAR will be a Pro-only feature, however Wedbush claims that LiDAR will be available on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini in its newest report.
We take a closer look at the iPhone 13's reported camera upgrades and what they mean for your photos.
iPhone 13 satellite communications
The iPhone 13 may set a record for any iPhone. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 13 will be able to communicate through satellite. The Qualcomm X60 baseband chip, which has been tweaked, would enable this.
This new function would allow iPhone 13 users to make calls or send texts without using a 4G or 5G cellular connection, which might be quite useful for those who are out of cell tower range.
Globalstar, according to Kuo, is the LEO (low earth orbit) satellite service provider most likely to work with Apple. However, it's unclear how the client will be invoiced; maybe through a partnership with their current carrier.
Bloomberg followed up with its own article, claiming that when a cellular connection was unavailable, the satellite connectivity would be used to deliver messages to emergency agencies and contacts. While the hardware for the iPhone 13 may be ready, the feature itself may not be available until next year.
iPhone 13 battery
In our battery life test, the iPhone 12 models did not impress. Only the iPhone 12 Pro Max's huge battery actually impressed. However, according to another report from Ming-Chi Kuo about the iPhone 13's so-called soft battery technology, the new iPhones could offer more battery capacity without increasing the design footprint.
This appears to be supported by a claim made by leaker Lvetodream, who claims that battery capacity will be increased across the board. The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes out on top, with an increase of 18% in battery capacity from 3,687 to 4,352 mAh. The gains on the other three models are significantly less, but they would still help with the short battery life issue.
According to a Trendforce research, the iPhone 13 models would have larger battery capacities due to a new implementation of a flexible charging and battery circuit board.
iPhone 13 charging
The iPhone 12 can charge at a maximum of 20 watts, but one rumor claims that Apple will provide speedier 25 watt charging this year. Unfortunately, the story comes from Chinese site MyDrivers, which was relayed by 9to5 Mac, and is based on anonymous "international media." That doesn't appear to be very trustworthy.
According to tipper Max Weinbach, the iPhone 13 could support reverse wireless charging, allowing it to power products such as the AirPods Pro and Apple Watch. Reverse wireless charging is unlikely to be included in the iPhone 13, according to Bloomberg. So, at this point, we'd consider this rumor to be speculative.
iPhone 13 and iOS 15
With the release of each new iPhone, a new version of iOS is released as well. When Apple unveiled iOS 15 at its Worldwide Developer Conference in June, it gave us our first decent look at the software that would power the new iPhones — as well as iPhones dating back to the iPhone 6s — we got our first good look at the software that will power the new iPhones.
Updates to FaceTime allow you to watch films and share information with others, a new Focus mode for managing notifications, and changes to Maps, Messages, Wallet, Weather, and other built-in apps are among the major iOS 15 highlights. Some iOS 15 capabilities will require an A12 Bionic CPU or later, but the iPhone 13 and its snazzy new Apple chip should be fine.
We're looking forward to learning more about the iPhone 13-specific features that are concealed in iOS 15. Predictive charging notifications, which were recently revealed in an Apple patent, are one feature we'd like to see. This system would learn your phone's usage and charging habits, similar to how Optimized Charging works now, but it would also notify you to charge it before it runs out of juice, while you're still in the correct spot to plug it in.
iPhone 13: What we want to see
Now that the iPhone 13 estimated launch date is only a few weeks away, expect to hear more specifics. Beyond what speculations suggest, here's what we'd like to see from the iPhone 13 when it does arrive.
- Standard 128GB of storage: Only 128GB of base storage was provided by Apple on the higher level iPhone 12 Pro models and left out of ordinary iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. That's a really excellent starting step, but Apple has to deal with the times and give all iPhone 13 models a 128 GB storage floor. It's ridiculous to spend almost a grandfather on a high-end smartphone that only packs 64GB out of the factory, particularly given that Apple is unwilling with microSD expand.
- Improved camera zoom: Apple needs to improve the iPhone's photography capabilities while shooting from a distance, whether by hardware, software, or a mix of the two. Many smartphone users prefer an ultrawide lens, but when you can't get near to your subject, a strong telephoto lens is just as crucial. Perhaps Apple could take a page from Google's Super Res Zoom function, which makes up for the lack of a high-powered periscope lens with sophisticated algorithms. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has marginally improved things to 2.5x optical power, but we'd want to see at least 3x in future iPhones with telephoto lenses.
- 120Hz Display: If you've never used a phone with one, a rapid refresh-rate display makes every scroll, tap, task, and game far more responsive than 60Hz screens. If 120Hz is too expensive for battery life, we'd settle with 90Hz, but a faster refresh rate might make iOS feel even smoother than it already does. Unfortunately, this was another feature that was announced for iPhone 12 early on but never saw the light of day.
With its flatter design, complete 5G capability, and LiDAR-boosted camera, we expect the iPhone 12 Pro to be the cornerstone for Apple's 2021 products. So keep an eye on this page in the coming months as the iPhone's future is shaped.
iPhone 13: What about the iPhone 14 in 2022?
When purchasing a tech item, you must weigh your immediate need or want against the chance of something newer and better in the future. This is true with phones, with some people experiencing FOMO (fear of missing out) when it comes to purchasing smartphones. You can play the waiting game for as long as you want, but you'll never truly win.
Although the iPhone 14 is still a ways off, we've already heard some intriguing speculations. The restoration of Touch ID is one of them, especially now that hopes for its comeback on the iPhone 13 have been shattered.
According to other speculations, the A16 Bionic chip will be made using a 4nm technology, which will increase power efficiency and overall performance. To make those judgments, though, we'll need to observe the chip in operation.
We've also heard rumors of probable iPhone 14 camera upgrades, such as enhanced ultrawide components for all iPhone 14 models. According to another report, the iPhone 14 will have a folding telephoto lens. This would allow for greater magnification without expanding the camera's or phone's physical size.
