Joni Mitchell Calls Broadway 'Almost Famous' "Better Than Film"

Joni Mitchell attended the opening night of Almost Famous on Broadway and declared it "better than the movie."

Originally released in 2000, Cameron Crowe semi-autobiographical film Almost Famous tells the story of a teenage journalist writing for a music magazine in the 1970s, his efforts to get his first cover story published, and the antics of touring with the fictitious rock band Stillwater.

The movie included a shot of Joni Mitchell 'Blue' album, as well as the singer performing 'River.'

The Broadway musical adaptation of Almost Famous had its opening night last week (November 3) before Joni Mitchell made a rare public appearance. Mitchell told People that the musical was "even better than the movie."

Crowe told Variety that watching Almost Famous with Mitchell was "an elixir that is really difficult to contain that comes straight from the heart."

Until April 9, Almost Famous is playing at New York Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Joni Mitchell surprised the crowd at the Newport Folk Festival in July when she joined Brandi Carlile on stage for two songs. The pair performed Mitchell's classics 'Both Sides Now' and 'A Case Of You' together. Mitchell also performed her 1974 song 'Just Like This Train"s guitar solo.

Mitchell revealed after the show that she had to re-learn the guitar using online videos after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015.

Carlyle said Michelle could play her first headline show in 23 years next year.

Carlyle did this on The Tonight Showr, revealed that she will perform at the Gorge Amphitheater with a capacity of 27,500 spectators in Grant County, Washington, on June 9, 2023. He also confirmed that Mitchell would play the next night at the same venue.

Back in April, Michelle performed in public for the first time since 2013, taking the stage at a benefit gala for the Musketeers, where she was honored with their 2022 Person of the Year award.
