Sony just launched two new versions of the PS5 in Australia

Sony has just released two new PS5 models in Australia. There are no major changes on the horizon, as the changes are primarily technical in nature for the assembly lines. For example, both PS5 are lighter.

Resellers in Australia discovered that the new PS5 they received were stamped CFI-1200A and CFI-1200B. They thus succeed the CFI-1100A and CFI-1100A models, which succeeded the CFI-1000A and CFI-1000A in 2021. This has no effect on consumers, but it does show changes at the production level.

Sony introduces lighter PS5 model for second year in a row

The light weight of these consoles distinguishes them. As a result, they lose slightly more than 200 grammes when compared to the previous ones. The traditional version weighs 3.9 kilogrammes, while the digital edition weighs 3.4 kilogrammes. For the time being, that's all we know about these models. They have not yet been sold and thus have not been subjected to teardowns to determine where the weight loss is coming from.

  • CFI-1000A (2020): 4.5 kg
  • CFI-1000B (2020): 3.9 kg
  • CFI-1100A (2021): 4.2 kg
  • CFI-1100B (2021): 3.6 kg
  • CFI-1200A (2022): 3.9 kg
  • CFI-1200B (2022): 3.4 kg

In any case, these versions should be available internationally gradually. Simply look at the model number printed in very small letters on the box to determine which PS5 you are purchasing.

Since its release, the PS5 has had a complicated life. For nearly two years, it was constantly out of stock due to the semiconductor crisis and inflation. Sony even decided to raise its price not long ago. In the world of video games, this is an unprecedented situation. For all of these reasons, don't hold your breath for a Slim or Pro model anytime soon. There's a good chance Sony is already working on it, but the current situation isn't ideal for a release. In any case, the Japanese company is gradually improving its machine in order to increase production.
