Apple is planning to announce the iPhone 14 at a launch event on September 7, with sales of the rumoured iPhone beginning on September 16, According to a Bloomberg report Wednesday.
That plan would be consistent with Apple practise of making new products available about a week after they're announced. According to Bloomberg, Apple store employees have been told to prepare for "a major new product release" on September 16.
The company will reportedly stream the launch event online rather than in person, as it has done throughout the pandemic.
Apple did not respond to a request for comment on the expected iPhone 14 launch date, but previous iPhone iterations have launched in early September, typically on a Tuesday or Wednesday, with sales beginning the following Friday.
Apple held its iPhone 13 event on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, and the phones went on sale on Friday, September 24. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, and Friday, September 16, 2022.
The iPhone 14 is expected to have the same 6.1-inch display as the iPhone 13, as well as a 6.7-inch Pro Max model. However, due to poor sales, Apple is reportedly discontinuing the 5.4-inch Mini.
The Pro model will have a notchless display and a 48-megapixel camera, among other changes.
The iPhone 14 is also expected to be $100 more expensive. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 were not priced differently, but the new model arrives as Apple's supply chain has seen cost increases.
This fall, new iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches are also expected to be released.
