Apple will not launch an iPhone 14 mini, according to multiple reports. The reasons are not particularly surprising. After all, most analysts predict that the mini-series will be a complete failure in terms of sales. Although the iPhone 12 mini was reportedly a commercial failure, Apple chose to stick with the iPhone 13 mini. The end result? Yet another commercial fail.
Apple will now concentrate on what pays the bills, the "bigger variants." Despite its higher price, the Pro Max variant is one of the most popular. The iPhone 14 Max is the result of Apple decision to add a larger model to the "base" iPhone lineup. Instead of the iPhone 14 mini, we'll see a new Max variant with a 6.7-inch display, similar to the Pro Max.
iPhone 14 Mini won't come on due to failure of iPhone 12 and 13 Mini
Apple first introduced the mini with the iPhone 12 in 2020, following a new marketing strategy. With smaller, cheaper, and more compact smartphones, the company attempted to attract new customers. However, the results fell far short of Apple expectations. Only six months after its official launch, the mini model accounted for only 6% of total iPhone sales. As a result of the unprecedented disaster, Apple decided to halt production.
In an attempt to fix past failures, Apple released the iPhone 13 mini the following year. However, the device was once again a tragic failure. In fact, its performance lags behind the previous generation. Mini sales were only 3% of total sales because only a few users chose that version. As a result, there is little hope for the iPhone 14 Mini as the device could turn out to be again big failure.
There are many reasons for low sales. To begin with, historically, Apple users have always preferred higher-end iPhone models. In addition, they consider what is the best value for their money. For example, the iPhone Mini isn't significantly less expensive than the standard model. As a result, users prefer the older model of the device, which is faster and has a bigger screen. In 2020, the iPhone 12 mini was less popular than the iPhone SE, iPhone 11, and iPhone XR, for example, when compared to the price of the new mini. As a result, the release of the iPhone 14 mini ... is pointless.
The Upcoming models
This year, Apple will launch new iPhone 14 models. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be unveiled. Only these models will have a faster Apple A16 chip and a new "pill + punch" screen design. The Pro models will also include a 48 MP camera with 8K video recording. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will be "less flagship" due to the use of an older Apple A15 processor.
We're curious to see if the iPhone 14 Max will truly outperforms the iPhone 14 mini. Users may still prefer the Pro variants due to their true "2022 flagship" appeal.
The new models also bring an AOD display with live wallpaper support.
