The much-anticipated Xiaomi 12S series has arrived. The company announced three smartphone models earlier today (4th July 2022), and now we'll take a look at the top-of-the-line 12S Ultra model from the latest flagship lineup.

The Chinese tech giant's new premium smartphone has a cow skin texture on the back. The back of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra also houses a large rectangular camera island, as well as a smaller circular module for the image sensors. This camera island even has the Leica branding, indicating the new partnership, and is designed to look like a real camera with a circular lens. Notably, the bump on the circular camera module is also made of 23K gold rim.
Notably, the leather is eco friendly and is made from silicon. It will not yellow over time, and it is also dirt and wear resistant. Meanwhile, the front has minimal bezels and a chin, as well as a punch hole camera in the centre of the display. The phone is also water and dust resistant, with an IP68 rating. The company has also prioritised its cooling system, with the thermal management inspired by the veins on the leaves.

The 12S Ultra is the top model in the new flagship series, so it comes equipped with Qualcomm cutting-edge Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which is built on a 4nm process. This chipset supports up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The new device has a 6.73-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display with a 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 1500 nits of peak brightness, and 521ppi pixel density on the front. The screen is also certified for Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
Here we, the display includes an optical under-display fingerprint scanner. It also comes with a Harman Kardon-tuned stereo speaker system. Other features include WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.2, IR blaster, Surge G1 power management chipset and MIUI 13 custom skin out-of-the-box.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is powered by a large 4,860mAh battery pack with 67W fast wired charging support. Additionally, it also supports 50W wireless fast charging and 10W reverse charging. The company claims that it can reach 50 percent charge in just 15 minutes with wired charging and 40 percent in 15 minutes with wireless charging.

The 12S Ultra has a Leica Summicron lens system on the back, thanks to a new collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica. The device has a triple camera setup, with the primary camera being a Sony IMX989 sensor with a large 1 inch sensor size and a 50 megapixel resolution.
The primary shooter also has HyperOIS and is capable of recording 8K videos. It is also equipped with a 48 megapixel ultra wide angle lens with a 128-degree field of view and another 48 megapixel telephoto lens with up to 120x magnification and OIS.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra: Pricing & Availability
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is available in two color variations: black and green. It has been launched in a variety of storage configurations, with the 8GB + 256GB model starting $896. The 12GB + 256GB model costs $971, while the 12GB + 512GB model costs $1,045.
