WhatsApp user will have more time to delete his message

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to delete messages two days after they are sent. Previously, the Meta-owned messaging platform allowed users to delete messages up to an hour after they were sent. This feature applies not only to text messages, but also to media files such as photos and videos.

The feature, as discovered by WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo, is now available on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.4.10. According to the report, users will be able to unsend messages exactly two days and 12 hours after sending them. The feature development was first noticed by the same publication in February of this year. However, the details of its stable rollout on regular WhatsApp are still unknown.

WhatsApp is also working on another delete-related feature, which will be rolled out in the coming days. This feature will allow the group admin to delete any text messages and media files in the chat. It is yet to reach the beta channels, which essentially means that it may take a long time to reach regular users.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is rumoured to be allowing users to hide their online status from specific people. Many users will benefit from this feature if they want to show their online status but keep it hidden from a group of people, such as office colleagues. It has the potential to be extremely useful, given that many people in India and around the world are still working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The feature is also currently in development, and beta users have not yet been granted access.

A leaked report, Meta intends to launch Whatsapp Communities by the end of 2022. The feature, which was unveiled in April of this year, aims to improve group conversations. It will allow group administrators to create sub-groups based on topics in order to better manage the flow of information. The improved delete option for group admins may be released alongside Whatsapp Communities, though this is purely speculative.
