Google co-founder Sergey Brin instructed his advisors to sell his personal investments in Elon Musk companies, following a brief affair with his wife, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Musk, the co-founder of Tesla Inc., allegedly had an affair with Nicole Shanahan in early December in Miami, according to the Journal, citing unidentified sources familiar with the situation. This effectively ended Musk's 51-year friendship with Brin, who assisted the electric carmaker during the 2008 financial crisis. In January, Brin, 48, filed for divorce from Shanahan.
The size of Brin personal investments in Musk companies is unknown, and it's unclear whether any sales have occurred, according to the newspaper.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk is the world's richest person, with a fortune of $242 billion. Brin is the eighth-richest person in the world, with a net worth of $94.6 billion.
The scandal is the most recent in a long line of revelations about Musk personal life. He became the father of twins born to a senior executive at his artificial intelligence startup Neuralink earlier this year, according to reports.
According to Insider, another of Musk companies, SpaceX, paid an employee $250,000 to settle a claim she was sexually harassed by Musk in 2016. Musk called the accusations "utterly false" and intended to derail his acquisition of Twitter Inc., which he is now attempting to terminate.
Musk affair with Shanahan occurred in December at Art Basel in Miami, and Musk later asked Brin for forgiveness at another event, according to the Journal.
Brin and Shanahan are currently negotiating a settlement, the Journal said, with Shanahan seeking more than $1 billion, albeit a prenuptial agreement.
