For years, Samsung has been the leading smartphone manufacturer, and the company continues to dominate global markets, as the South Korean corporation remained at the top for the first quarter of this year.
According to the most recent International Data Corporation (IDC) report, Samsung remained the world's leading smartphone manufacturer, with a 23.4 percent market share and 73.6 million unit shipments in Q1 2022.
Samsung shipments of 23.6 million units represent a 1.2 percent year-on-year decrease, as the company shipped 74.5 million units in the first quarter of 2021.
Apple took second place with an 18% market share and total shipments of 56.6 million iPhones from January to March of this year. In contrast to Samsung, Apple increased shipments by 2.2 percent in the first quarter of this year.
Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo are ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. With 39.9 million shipments, Xiaomi captured a 12.7 percent market share, while OPPO shipped 27.4 million units, accounting for an 8.7 percent market share. Vivo had an 8.1 percent market share and shipped 25.3 million units.
Similar to Samsung, all three Chinese smartphone makers saw a drop in shipments year on year, with Vivo seeing a massive 27.7 percent drop, followed by OPPO with a 26.8 percent drop, and Xiaomi with a 17.8 percent drop.
Companies are struggling in the market due to supply chain issues for core components of smartphones, says IDC Nabila Popal. It also indicates a reduction in consumer demand due to the current economic situation and global inflation.
