Technoblade, an extremely popular Minecraft player, died on Thursday at the age of 23 after a battle with cancer. The video game to which the young streamer devoted so much of his life now pays tribute to the beloved figure.
"We've been trying to find the right words, but all of us here at Minecraft are heartbroken over the loss of Technoblade," the company wrote on Twitter Friday. "He meant a lot to our community and brought us a lot of joy." He will be sorely missed."
Technoblade began uploading Minecraft videos to YouTube in 2013 and has grown to a dedicated audience over several years. But his profile really exploded around 2019 when he won several installments of "Minecraft Monday," a weekly tournament hosted by controversial streamer Kemstar.
In August 2021, Technoblade revealed his cancer diagnosis. At the time, he stated that he had been experiencing pain in his right arm, which he assumed was due to a stress injury caused by gaming. He went to the hospital after his shoulder began to swell and was diagnosed with cancer.
Technoblade death was announced in a YouTube video in which his father read a letter written by Technoblade before his death. The creator finally revealed his first name, Alex, in the letter, a long-kept secret despite his massive popularity.
Alex thanked fans for their support, especially those who had purchased various memberships and merch over the previous year, even if it appeared that he was selling out. He mentioned that the proceeds would be used to help send his siblings to college — "Well, if they want to," he joked. "I don't want to put them under any dead brother peer pressure."
Alex wrote, "If I had 100 more lives, I think I would love to be a technoblade every now and then because those were the happiest years of my life." "I hope you guys enjoyed my stuff, and I made some of you laugh. And I hope you all live long, prosperous and happy lives, because I love you guys."
