OnePlus 10T 5G: Rumours, leaks, and everything we know so far

OnePlus 10T 5G: Rumours, leaks, and everything we know so far

OnePlus has changed greatly over the last few years. It has shifted away from its enthusiast image and is attempting to enter the mass market. In the process, it has diversified its lineup by adding more entry-level and mid-range devices, and it has reduced its flagship lineup to just one device, the OnePlus 10 Pro, which will take the top spot in 2022. This, however, will not last long. The OnePlus 10T will be the company next high-end phone to be launched this year, with a launch date of August 3, during an event livestreamed from New York.

OnePlus decision to release a T model is a return to a familiar strategy that the company abandoned a few years ago. Until 2020, OnePlus released two flagship lineups per year, with the T series being the second, slightly more refined release. The OnePlus 10T may represent just that, with one minor exception. There is no regular OnePlus 10 to compare the 10T to right now because there is only a OnePlus 10 Pro. Furthermore, it does not appear that the 10T will be a more advanced version of the 10 Pro. Here's everything we know so far about the OnePlus 10T.

OnePlus 10T 5G: Expect Design

OnePlus has shared official images with The Verge, giving us an early look at the phone's design before its August 3 launch. In form and shape, it represents the OnePlus 10 Pro, complete with a camera array that smoothly curves into the phone's edge. It also looks to have the same silky smooth sandstone-like back as the 10 Pro. For better or worse, the 10T appears to lose the curved display.

The absence of OnePlus' trademark physical alert slider, which has been a part of the OnePlus flagship experience since forever, is more intriguing than the display change. The 10 Pro and older models allow you to change the ringer from silent to vibrate to sound, but the 10T lacks this slider entirely. OnePlus explains that it wanted to remove it to free up more space inside the phone for other components (it does appear to take up a lot of space), and it also appears to serve the structural rigidity of the phone. Nonetheless, this appears to be the end of an era for OnePlus.

OnePlus 10T 5G: Specification

In terms of specifications, we're still in the dark. According to the latest leak, the phone will have a 6.7-inch 120Hz FHD+ OLED display with a 32MP selfie camera. A 50MP primary camera is joined on the back by a 16MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro. Unlike the 10 Pro, the 10T no longer bears Hasselblad branding. OnePlus sees this as yet another cost-cutting measure to enable other features, similar to the removal of the alert slider.

Inside, you should find the state-of-the-art Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the fastest Qualcomm processor currently available. This will appear to be a last minute change, as the company was initially seen experimenting with the MediaTek Dimension 9000. As for RAM and storage, the phone is said to be equipped with 128 and 256GB storage variants along with standard 8 and 12GB RAM, but there could also be a more advanced version of 16GB RAM in some markets.

The rumoured 4,800mAh battery is almost certainly capable of charging at speeds of up to 150W. This makes it faster than the OnePlus 10 Pro, which has an 80W charger, but the OnePlus 10T is expected to lack wireless charging. The OnePlus 10T may also include an in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers. In terms of software, it is expected to run the Android 12-based OxygenOS 12. Then, after Android 13 is officially released, we can expect this phone to receive OxygenOS 13.

OnePlus 10T 5G: Launch date, availability and price

On August 3, 2022, the OnePlus 10T will be unveiled in New York. OnePlus will livestream the event, so make sure to tune in if you want to see what the company has to offer. Given that the company launch event has been relocated to New York, it's safe to assume that the 10T will be available in the United States. This is also a strategy shift from the OnePlus 10 Pro, which was initially only available in China. It was only much later that it was introduced to international markets.

In terms of pricing, we anticipate that the OnePlus 10T will be slightly less expensive than the OnePlus 10 Pro. After all, OnePlus is positioning the new entry in the series as a non-Pro phone, so charging more than the top-of-the-line alternative would be strange. Given the 10 Pro $900 price tag, a price range of $600 to $800 seems reasonable.
