The European Commission announced the move in response to consumer group complaints. Consumer groups had complained that users were forced to navigate complicated navigation menus and make confusing choices in order to unsubscribe from Prime.
According to Reuters, Amazon Prime members in the European Union will be able to unsubscribe from websites for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices with immediate effect. "Choosing an online subscription can be very easy for consumers because it is often a very simple process, but unsubscribing should be just as simple."
Consumers can exercise their rights without being pressured by the platform. One thing is certain: manipulative designs, also known as "dark patterns," should be prohibited. "I applaud Amazon's commitment to allowing consumers to unsubscribe freely and easily," said Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders:
Amazon, on the other hand, claims to have made it simple for customers to sign in and cancel their subscriptions. "By design, we make it easy for customers to sign up for and cancel their Prime membership." "We constantly listen to customer feedback and look for ways to improve the customer experience, as we are doing here after constructive dialogue with the European Commission," an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. Step 1: Go to the Amazon app.
Step 2: Tap on the hamburger menu, which is at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: Tap on Account and scroll down.
Step 4: Tap on Manage Prime membership.
Step 5: Again tap on Manage Membership, which is written on the top of the screen.
Step 6: Press on End Membership after selecting Membership from the Manage section.
