A Colombian court has prohibited the sale of 5G iPhones and iPads in the country. The Ericsson patent case has reached its conclusion. The court ruled that the specific Apple products infringe on an Ericsson patent.
The court in Bogota ruled in favour of Ericsson, which had accused Apple of violating its 5G patent. The country capital court ruled that Apple's 5G hardware infringed on a 2019 Ericsson patent that is valid until 2035. The ruling was issued in April, and Ericsson has taken steps to enforce it. In May 2022, Ericsson posted a $50,000 bond. Last week, the Court issued a preliminary injunction against Apple Colombia subsidiary.

The court injunction specifically prohibits Apple from importing, selling, advertising, or commercialising any patent-infringing products. The Court also warned the country regulatory authorities to ensure that the injunction was followed. As a result of the court's order, Apple has filed an antisuit damages case in a Texas court.
According to Apple, the Colombian injunction gives Ericsson an unfair advantage in pressuring Apple to pay royalties. It is thus asking the court to order Ericsson to pay any fines, fees, penalties, or costs incurred as a result of the Colombian injunction.
The current case is another in a long line of patent-related lawsuits. There are several other lawsuits pending in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
