The iOS 16 beta 2 update was recently released by Apple. The new iOS 16 beta update is now available for iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and other eligible iPhone models, allowing developers to get hands-on experience with the new features before updating their apps. Other users, on the other hand, may have installed the iOS 16 beta update on their primary devices in order to be among the first to experience the new features.
Beta updates can be buggy and cause the battery to drain more quickly than usual. Fortunately, users can revert to iOS 15.5 even after installing iOS 16 beta 2 or any other iOS 16 beta update. Here's how to restore iOS 15 after installing iOS 16 beta 2 on your iPhone.
Uninstall iOS 16: How to downgrade from iOS 16 to 15?
The quickest and easiest way to return to iOS 15 and remove the iOS 16 beta update is to erase and restore your device. However, you will be unable to restore the backup taken on iOS 16 because backups created with beta software may not be compatible with older versions of iOS. Apple will give you the option of restoring the iOS 15 backup data (if one exists) or setting it up as a new iPhone.
Follow these steps to downgrade from iOS 16 to 15
- Before you begin the process of uninstalling iOS 16 beta, make sure your Mac has the most recent macOS update installed.
- Connect your iPhone to a Mac or PC and enter recovery mode. Press and quickly release the volume up and volume down buttons on an iPhone 8 or later. Then, press and hold the power button until the recovery mode screen appears.
- When the "Restore" option appears on your Mac, select it. This will erase all data on your device and install the most recent iOS non-beta update, which is currently iOS 15.5. If the download takes longer than 15 minutes and your iPhone exits the recovery mode screen, wait for the download to complete before repeating the previous step.
- When you see the prompt to install the latest iOS 15 update on your iPhone, tap on install. You can then restore the backup from iOS 15 that was made on your Mac/PC or iCloud.
Alternatively, you can delete the public beta by deleting the beta profile. To accomplish this, navigate to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > iOS 16 Beta Profile > Remove Profile and restart your device. Please keep in mind that this method will not allow you to downgrade your iPhone to iOS 15. You'll have to wait until the next non-beta version of iOS becomes available for download. If an update is already available, go to Settings > General > Software Update to install it.
