After being exclusive to T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile for a few months, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G is now available unlocked. The Nord N20 is a mid-range 5G phone priced under $300 that has received positive reviews since its release in the United States. However, it is not without rivalry. The TCL Stylus 5G is a close competitor that is less expensive and includes a stylus.
Samsung also has a phone in this price range, the Galaxy A13 5G, which is less expensive than the Nord N20 5G and outperforms it in some areas. HMD Global is also in the race with its Nokia X100, which lacks OnePlus in several ways but costs less. OnePlus, on the other hand, has made a name for itself in the mid-range segment, which is where the Nord N20 5G excels.
The Nord N20 5G is now available as a carried unlocked device on the manufacturer's website, roughly two months after it was released in the United States through T-Mobile and its MVNO, Metro by T-Mobile. What's surprising is that, despite the fact that the specs are identical to the carrier-locked variant, OnePlus charges a higher price for the unlocked version. The T-Mobile variant of the phone costs $282, but the unlocked model costs $299, a $17 premium. T-Mobile subsidised the phone for those who purchased it through its network, which is one plausible explanation for the price. This means that the phone original price was $299.
Nord N20 5G also available unlocked in Canada
The Nord N20 5G is not only available in the United States, but it is also available on the Canadian website for CA$379. Furthermore, OnePlus is offering a 20% discount on the Nord Buds when purchased in conjunction with the Nord N20 5G. The earbuds are normally $39/CA$49, but with the discount, you can get them for $31.78/CA$39.2.
The display on the Nord N20 5G is a 6.43-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. There is a punch-hole cutout for a 16MP camera and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 695 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The maximum supported capacity is 512GB, which should be sufficient for the majority of users. On the back, there is a triple camera array with a 64MP main shooter, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP monochrome camera. Given the configuration, it is not unreasonable to conclude that there is only one useful camera on the back.
OnePlus has included an under-display fingerprint scanner as well as face unlock, though the former will provide more reliable security. The phone contains a 4,500mAh battery that charges at 33W. Unlike Samsung, which does not include a charger with the mid-range Galaxy A53 5G, OnePlus includes a 33W power adapter and USB-C cable with the Nord N20. NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, an audio jack, and support for sub-6GHz Wi-Fi networks are among the other features of the Nord N20. The OnePlus Nord N20 5G ships with Android 11 and is expected to receive an update to Android 12.
