Apple announcing a new MacBook Air at WWDC 2022

Apple is expected to announce a new MacBook Air at WWDC 2022, according to rumours.

Mark German, a well-known tipster, has previously reported that Apple is planning a new MacBook Air for the Apple Developer Conference.

Another set of leaks suggested that the Apple MacBook Air would be available in new colours, but Gurman clarified that while the MacBook Air may be announced during the event, Apple is unlikely to release the new colours.

“Gurman tweeted about the new MacBook Air, saying, "The much-reported idea of the new MacBook Air coming in a range of " several colours" is probably exaggerated." It is currently available in space grey, silver, and gold. I wouldn't expect anything else besides those colours (though the new gold will be more champagne-like) and my favourite iMac colour.”

German also stated that the only reason Apple might not announce the MacBook Air at the WWDC is due to manufacturing issues. "I think the only way it doesn't is if the factory shutdowns in China caused such a supply and release date gap that it wouldn't make sense to announce it on Monday," he added.

Several rumours and leaks have suggested that Apple may finally refresh the MacBook Air design. For example, the new MacBook Air is expected to ditch the LCD in favour of a MiniLED display. It will remain Apple lightest model in the Mac lineup.

According to reports, the new MacBook Air may also include an improved FaceTime HD camera with 1080p resolution. The current MacBook Air support 720p HD webcams.

The all-new chipset is one of the major changes that the new MacBook Air is expected to include. Apple is expected to release the M2 chip, which will be the successor to Apple's extremely successful M1 chip. The new chip will be faster and more efficient in terms of performance.

In addition to the MacBook Air, Apple is expected to announce the latest iOS 16, iPad OS 16, watchOS, and macOS 13 at WWDC 2022. The much-anticipated Always-On Display (AoD) feature is expected to be included in the upcoming iOS 16 software update.
