'Norm Macdonald' stand-up will be released on Netflix on May 30

"Norm McDonald" shoot one final stand-up before his death last year, set to be released on Netflix on May 30.

The comedian, who died on September 14 at the age of 61 after a nine-year battle with cancer, shot a one-hour stand-up special privately the night before he was scheduled to undergo surgery in the summer of 2020.

According to a Hollywood reporter, McDonald longtime producer, 'Lori Jo Hoekstra', said: "Her test results weren't good, so during the COVID-19 pandemic and literally the night before she went in for a procedure , he wanted to get it. On tape just in case - as he put it - things went south.

It was his intention to have a special one to share if anything happened.

The special was shot entirely in Macdonald's living room in one take, as his illness prevented him from filming in front of a live audience.

Hoekstra suggested the title Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special after Macdonald "ended up watching it before he passed away."

The special will also include footage of Adam Sandler, Conan O'Brien, Dave Chappelle, David Letterman, David Spade, and Molly Shannon discussing the comedian at the Netflix Is A Joke festival.

From 1993 to 1998, Macdonald was a member of the Saturday Night Live cast, where he was known as the anchor of the show Weekend Update segment for three seasons.

Following his departure from SNL, the comedian appeared in the 1998 film Dirty Work and his own sitcom The Norm Show from 1999 to 2001. Norm Macdonald Has A Show, his own Netflix talk show, premiered in 2018.

Following his death, actor Jim Carrey said on Twitter, "He was one of our most precious gems." A comic genius who is both honest and brave. "I adore him."
