Melissa Gilbert spills the beans in her new memoir, opening up about her midlife crisis following her divorce from fellow actor Bruce Boxleitner.
Back to the Prairie: A Home Remade, A Life Rediscovered, an excerpt from the book, the former "Little House on the Prairie" star gets candid about the decisions she made during that time in her life, which included a little cosmetic enhancement.
"At the urging of the inappropriately young French dude I began dating, I had Botox, fillers, recolored my hair, and bought a Mustang convertible," the former Screen Actors Guild president wrote in the memoir, according to an excerpt in Yahoo! Life.
Her goal, she realised later, was to relive the "freedom" she remembered from her youth.
"I reacted like many other women I met: I tried to freeze everything in place," she explained, noting that "being a single woman in your forties in Los Angeles is a whole other league of pressure." And being an actress looking for work in an industry obsessed with youth amplifies that."
It wasn't until she met her current husband, actor and director Timothy Busfield, and relocated from Los Angeles to Michigan that she gained the perspective she lacked in L.A.
"I can't move my brow — and that's not okay," she explained. "I have a feeling I'll want to move it more in the future." I'd like to visit somewhere where that is possible."
