Twitter CEO - Micro-blogging site may never get an edit button

Twitter users will finally have access to a feature they have long desired: the edit button. Years after former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tell that the microblogging site would never get an edit button. It is working on the edit button, and according to sources, Twitter will keep a record of all tweets even if you use the edit button.

When you hit the edit button on Twitter, it will create a new tweet rather than mutating the existing one, according to tipster Jane Manchun Wong. "Looks like Twitter Edit Tweet approach is immutable," Wrong tweeted. "Instead of mutating the Tweet text within the same Tweet (same ID), it re-creates a new Tweet with the amended content, along with a list of the old Tweets prior to that edit."

This clearly indicates that, while you may forget what changes you made to a tweet, Twitter will never forget. It is unclear whether Twitter will keep the record for its own purposes, or whether the information about the edited tweet will be available to all followers or just the account holder. We won't know how Twitter intends to handle its edit button until the feature is made available to users. According to the reports, users may only be able to access the feature if they pay for it. That is, Twitter Blue users would be the only ones who could access it.

Twitter previously announced on its official account that it is working on a new edit button. Twitter also refused to credit Tesla CEO Elon Musk poll on whether the social media site should have an edit button. While the fact that Twitter is working on an edit button is good news for users, it does raise some security concerns that must be addressed before Twitter can implement the edit button.

In response to the security concerns, Twitter's VP of Consumer Products, Jay Sullivan, previously tweeted, "Edit has been the most requested Twitter feature for many years." People want to be able to correct a mistake, typos, and hot takes in real time (sometimes embarrassing). They are currently avoiding it by deleting and retweeting it. Without things like deadlines, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, editing can be used to alter the record of public conversations. The integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work.
