Qualcomm has already established a tradition of releasing two flagship chips per year. First, there is a new generation of the platform, and then, after about six months, the chip maker releases its over clocked version, which increases the clock frequency of the cores. According to rumours, a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 version will be available this year, but the main difference will be TSMC transition to 4nm process technology.
Xiaomi 12 Pro will receive a version with an improved chip
There is already speculation that Qualcomm new system on a chip will be available in the upcoming gaming Lenovo Halo smartphone. It was discovered that Xiaomi is also attempting to bring the new hardware platform, and that it is already testing a smartphone with it. The new device codename is L2s, and it is based on the flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro.
As per rumours, the release of an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 this year is also dictated by the fact that the top-end chip in its current version was created using Samsung 4-nanometer process technology. In terms of energy efficiency and maturity, the South Korean giant technology falls short of the standards set by TSMC 4-nm process technology. With the chip market becoming more competitive, Qualcomm requires a better solution, which is why it will release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 using technology from a Taiwanese chipmaker.
