Transitioning from one operating system to another is a task. Users are difficult to switch phones with different operating systems because doing so would result in the loss of their chat history. WhatsApp, on the other hand, will now make it easier for users to switch from Android to iOS and vice versa. WhatsApp previously allowed chat migration from iPhone to Samsung and Pixel devices. It was discovered testing the import chat from Android feature in the most recent beta.
According to Wabetainfo, the WhatsApp beta for iOS reveals an upcoming feature that will let iOS users import chats from Android devices. Screenshots from Wabetainfo show that WhatsApp is asking users for permission to import chat history from Android devices. The option to transfer chats from Android device to iPhone is yet to be seen. However, as it looks, the process will not be as simple as it looks. Users will need a USB cable to connect the two phones and then transfer data between the phones. This feature is not yet in beta testers, so it may take some time for WhatsApp to roll out to a wider audience.
WhatsApp introduced the chat transfer feature from iOS to select Samsung devices in August last year. The chat migration feature was also extended to Google Pixel phones in October. iPhone users can transfer their chats from iOS to devices running Android 12. However, this feature was missing in Android phones. WhatsApp may now introduce the feature for Android users as well, but users are not aware of the timeline. Once launched, the feature will make it easier for Android users to migrate to iOS devices without losing chat history. Currently, if you switch from Android phone to iPhone, you will definitely lose your chat history.
Apart from the chat migration feature, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on the possibility to pause and resume voice messages on the beta version of the desktop app. WhatsApp beta lets users listen to voice messages before sending them to the desktop, but now users will also get the ability to pause and resume recordings. Using this feature, you can listen to the voice note before sending it, you can delete the voice note or you can resume recording.
The Pause and Play feature is already available on WhatsApp for iOS. It hasn't been rolled out on Android Beta yet but will be available later. It is important to note that the features are currently under development and are not yet ready for stable release.
