Philips 3-in-1 air purifier review

Air purifiers are no longer a luxury as they have become a necessity. If you live in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, you probably know the quality of the air that greets you when you step out to the balcony first thing in the morning. While there is practically nothing you can do to purify the outdoor air, you should definitely include an air purifier in your living room to protect yourself from lung diseases. But the best air purifiers on the market, offered by Dyson, are very expensive. However, Philips, one of the most popular electronics brands in India, has launched an air purifier that can not only help you breathe clean air but can also help you during the Delhi winters.

Launched at Rs 27,896, the Philips 3-in-1 Air Purifier can clean the air you breathe to keep you warm during winters but also has the ability to cool your sweat during summers. In short, the purifier comes with a heater as well as a fan. This Dyson purifier goes up against the Hot + Cool but at a relatively low cost. I've been using air purifiers for weeks, and here what I feel about the device.

Philips 3 in 1 air purifier: Design

I think air purifier should be well designed because when you get one for your living room or bedroom, it should match with your home decor. An ugly looking appliance can spoil the decor of your home, it will not be pleasant to look at. Of course, if you are interested in decoration then it matters to you. With the Philips 3-in-1, none of this is a concern. This is because the device is extremely well designed and compact. The Philips 3-in-1 air purifier has a design similar to a keyhole, although it is a larger one. It's about 60cm long and about 25cm wide, and it's much smaller than the Dyson Purifier Cool. The air purifier is offered in Metallic Gray color and has a plastic build.

The heater and fan have a circular design with a cone-shaped base. The base houses the air purifier's filter and has small mesh-like cutouts to let air in. For first time buyers, it is important to manually remove the back panel and then take the filter out of the plastic packet and put the filter back in. After putting the filter back put the back cover on and don't forget to put on the filter because if you keep using it with plastic you will smell burnt after a few hours. The conical base also houses a small display on the front, which displays the room temperature and PM2.5 levels in your room. A magnetic remote is provided inside the box, which can be mounted on the back of the dome. It is used to switch the device on/off to change the mode and temperature.

The air purifier has an LED ring that changes colors depending on the mode you choose. When you turn on the heater, the ring turns red, and when you turn on the fan, the light turns blue. The color of the LED strip on the base changes in response to the PM2.5 levels. If the air quality is good, and the temperature is less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the LED strip will glow blue. If the PM levels exceed 60 but are less than 120, the LED strip will alternate between blue and purple. If the air quality is poor, the LED strip will turn red if the PM2.5 level exceeds 250.

The top of the dome shaped air purifier has capacitive touch buttons. To turn on the device or change the modes, you can use either the remote magnetic panel at the back or the capacitive touch buttons. However, don't fiddle with the magnetic remote too much or you'll end up losing it.

Philips 3-in-1 air purifier: Performance

A few days ago, the maximum temperature in Delhi was below 11 degrees Celsius. As a result, it is nearly impossible to function without a heater. So why not choose a product that will both clean the air and keep you warm? I've been using the device for a few weeks now, and I'm still amazed at how well it heats the room. You will be able to appreciate its heating capability more if you use it in a medium-sized room. Remember to close your room door to allow the heater to work properly.

My room would become warmer than it was before I turned on the heater. The cool breeze hit my face hard the moment I stepped out of my room. The temperature dropped noticeably the moment I stepped outside. To put it in numbers, the heater raised the temperature to 19 degrees, while the temperature outside the room was around 14 degrees, demonstrating how efficiently the room was heated.

Talking about air purification, the Philips 3-in-1 Air Purifier has a 3-layer filter. The outer layer captures larger particles such as dust and hair, and the HEPA filter traps viruses, bacteria, household dust, pet dander, pollen, outdoor pollution, dust mites, mold spores, smoke, and other allergens and pollutants , the third activates the carbon filter. Removes harmful gases and unpleasant odours. Whenever smoke comes out in the kitchen while cooking, the PM level on the LED strip rises. There was also a significant increase in PM2.5 levels when I lit incense sticks or mosquito coils. Philips has not mentioned whether the air purifier is effective against COVID-19, but given the airpurifiers house HEPA filters, which trap the virus, the airpurifiers should be able to trap the COVID-19 virus as well.

As previously stated, the Philips 3-in-1 air purifier competes with the Dyson Hot and Cool. The Philips air purifier is half the price of the Dyson Hot and Cool, but it lacks a number of features, such as app support. The Philips air purifier lacks app support, so you can't change modes or increase fan speed with your phone. To change the modes and fan speed, you must get out of your seat. However, that isn't a problem for me. Certain things would be missing if there was a Rs 25,000 price difference.

Philips 3-in-1 air purifier: Should you buy it?

When we talk about air purifiers, the first name that comes to mind is Dyson. However, the Dyson devices may not be affordable for everyone, especially if you want your air purifier to do more than just clean your air. This is where the Philips 3-in-1 air purifier comes in handy.

Apart from cleaning the air in your room, the Philips 3-in-1 air purifier can heat it in the winter and cool it in the summer. The Philips air purifier has a stylish design and is very small. The device has the potential to liven up a drab corner of your living room.

However, the device does not support apps. You will have to change the mode manually using the capacitive touch buttons on the dome. It isn't a major disadvantage in my opinion. However, if you want more advanced features, you can choose the Dyson Hot and Cool, which costs Rs 50,000.
