Tecno Mobiles, a value-focused smartphone brand operated by Transsion Holdings, is reportedly set to introduce a new Samsung image sensor that uses an RGBW pixel array. At a recent conference, the company mentioned the Samsung Isocell GWB - an upcoming mobile imaging sensor that combines a white pixel into a red, green and blue pixel. The latter isn't an entirely new strategy, so it remains to be seen how it actually affects images taken through this sensor.
According to reports, the Samsung Isocell GWB is set to have an RGBW sensor with 64MP image resolution. The addition of white pixels will help the sensor improve its overall sensitivity to light, which in turn can help produce better photos in low light. The teased images boast less background glare in better-lit environments, and more balanced contrast levels when images are shot in dark backgrounds.

At the moment it is not clear when the said sensor can be seen in action. Considering that Tecno has partnered with Samsung for this, reports indicate that a Tecno smartphone, which will be launched in early 2022, will most likely be the device with the sensor. There is no confirmation that this could happen before early 2022, when Samsung is expected to launch its own flagship smartphone range, the alleged Galaxy S22 series.
The collaboration comes at a time when reports indicate that Tecno was recently seen taking a dig at Samsung, and a perceived lack of diversity in terms of smartphones in its portfolio. A Tecno teaser reportedly urged users not to fall for "the same song", and instead choose a better variety potentially from their own portfolio.

Meanwhile, Samsung has been quite experimental with its smartphones. The company has one of the most accessible mainstream smartphone lineups that use a foldable display - under its Galaxy Z series. It also has more generic flagships under its Galaxy S series of devices. The company makes its own processors, connectivity chips as well as its own image sensors – making it one of the big names in industrial and consumer technologies around the world.
