However, Japanese merchants are implementing a new strategy that may put some of these scalpers out of business.

With a new measure, Japanese retailers are innovating in the fight. To combat PlayStation 5 scalpers and resellers, some retailers, most notably GEO and Nojima Denki, have begun using a new tactic. These strategies include writing the buyer's full name on the box at the time of purchase. Retailers are also disposing of the Dualsense Controller Box and marking it in such a way that reselling becomes a problem.

Japanese retailers are tightening the things for PlayStation 5 scalpers
Scalpers have been a major source of concern for those looking to purchase a next-generation console, as they appear to be sold out upon each restock, both offline and online. The severity of these issues has reached the point in Japan where the police have had to intervene on occasion to quell the commotion caused in stores due to the limited number of PlayStation 5 units available.
Some Japanese retailers, such as GEO, use a lottery system. It allows users to submit their names in the hopes of being chosen to purchase a PS5 during restock time. Prospective buyers are being given additional instructions and information about the new anti scalper measures this time around. The retailer will open the PS5 box upon purchase. Furthermore, the Dual Sense controller pouch receives an X to make reselling a little more difficult.
If you try to resell the console later, this will undoubtedly reduce its value. Furthermore, some users, particularly collectors, may be dissatisfied with the way their retail boxes are labelled.
