Xiaomi took an alternative route this year when it comes to its software skin MIUI. We've grown accustomed to the company releasing new major upgrades every year. The company, on the other hand, decided to extend the life of MIUI 12 with incremental upgrades. We assume that the company encountered some difficulties with the MIUI 13 development as a result of the pandemic and other stressful factors. The fact is that when a company develops new software with significant changes, including UI changes, it is natural to expect a lengthy development period. Today, the company founder, Lei Jun, finally revealed some details about the upcoming MIUI update.

As previously stated, MIUI 12 had one of the biggest lifespans in the MIUI history. The major upgrade was revealed last year, and an incremental upgrade in the form of MIUI 12.5 was released in late 2020. It introduced a few design changes as well as performance and security enhancements. Xiaomi recently released MIUI 12.5 Enhanced, which includes new tweaks to improve the overall experience. As the end of the year approaches, we're relieved to hear that MIUI 12 is finally reaching to an end.
MIUI 13 will arrive by the end of the year
According to the latest report, MIUI 13 will be unveiled by the end of the year. Whether by coincidence or not, that is when we expect the company to unveil the Xiaomi 12 with Snapdragon 898. The flagship smartphone of the following year will almost certainly be the first to ship with MIUI 13. Of course, the update should be rolled out to a large number of Xiaomi smartphones over the course of 2022. According to reports, the new update will include significant UI changes as well as new features and enhancements.

Lei Jun confirmed that the new version of the software will be released before the end of the year. Surprisingly, the update was reportedly planned for the release of the Mi MIX 4. The developers, on the other hand, required more time to polish the software. Now, it appears that the new update will be ready in time for the Xiaomi 12 unveiling. As is usual, the Chinese version may be made public. The international version of the system could be released a few weeks later, possibly in conjunction with the announcement of a major global smartphone.

Lei Jun used the occasion to highlight the battery optimizations in MIUI 12.5. According to the executive, one of the reasons for the smartphone long battery life is the software. Surprisingly, MIUI 13 is expected to improve in this department as well. The update should be available for the majority of smartphones released this year. It should arrive as an Android 12 update for some smartphones, while others may continue to run Android 11.
