Instagram testing in-app alerts to inform users about service outages

Instagram testing in-app alerts

After two outages for Instagram last week, The company is currently testing an alert feature that will notify users when there is an outage or a technical problem. The news comes just days after Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced an Instagram outage on Friday, following nearly 7 hours of outages on Monday.

"We are testing a new feature that will notify you in your Activity Feed when there is an outage or a technical issue, as well as when it is resolved." We will not send a notification every time there is an outage, but if we notice that people are confused and looking for answers, we'll see if something like this can help clear things up," Instagram stated in a blog post. The new alerts, according to Engadget, appear in users' activity feeds. Other in-app notifications will also appear here. Messages can alert users to specific issues, such as storey uploads, or to a more widespread problem, such as last week's outage, which caused confusion.

Users from all over the world were affected on Monday, and it was unclear whether the problem was due to their network or if the Facebook-owned app had truly gone down. Following the resolution of the issue, Facebook stated that the outage was caused by a "faulty configuration modification." WhatsApp demise has impacted over 3.5 billion users around the world. The outage was one of Facebook and its affiliates longest. Facebook.com and its servers were also taken down from the internet.

The issue was with Facebook DNS servers and BGP, according to Facebook (the local peering network that Facebook uses). Instagram, meanwhile, is developing a new account status section for its app. This tool will provide users with full details on why their account was suspended or why a post was removed. If a user believes the decision was made unfairly, they can request a review. This tool, according to Instagram, would make it easier for users to understand why a post was removed and whether or not their account will be permanently deleted. Users will be able to understand why their account has been suspended as a result of the upgrade.
