The Skullcandy Dime True Wireless Earbuds are the most affordable wire free earphones we've encountered, with a price tag of just $24.99. Yes, some concessions have been taken in order to achieve such a low price: everything is plastic and appears to be so, the charging cord is about the length of a pinky finger, and the bundled accessories are kept to a bare minimum. However, these earbuds sound great, with a deep, enhanced (but not artificial) bass depth and bright, crisp highs. Their excellent audio performance makes it easy to overlook some of the other flaws, such as the battery life short duration and poorly designed controls.
The design of Skullcandy Dime True
Skullcandy Dime True design is incredibly looking great. Its compact size allows you to simply carry it in your pocket. The earphones are packaged in a light-weight plastic case. The earbuds design is such that whether the buds are kept in the case or not, it is visible from the top of the case. Apart from that, there is no indicator to indicate the amount of charge remaining in the buds. The casing has status LEDs on the outside that indicate that it is charging. A short micro USB cable is included with the Skullcandy Dime True. At the same time, the inclusion of a micro USB charging connector renders it obsolete.

The company is selling three sizes of silicone ear tips to fit all ear sizes with these buds: small, medium, and large. The Skullcandy logo may be found on the rear of the casing as well as the earbuds. The buds fit snugly in their charging and storage holes inside the case, according to the manufacturer. Huh. True Black, Dark Blue, Green, and Dark Grey are the three color options for the earphones. When it comes to the earphones, they have an LED light that indicates whether they are on or off.

Skullcandy Dime: Connectivity and Battery
The Skullcandy Dime earphones are Bluetooth 5.0 compatible and can be quickly connected to any Android or iOS device. A skull shaped button has been provided to control these wireless earphones, which is quite tough to use due to its hardness. You must hold the buds for two seconds to turn them on or off, after which they will automatically pair with your last connected device. Skullcandy claims a battery life of up to 12 hours with the cover, but these buds barely last 5-6 hours, thus I couldn't wear them for too long. When the battery is running low, the buds will continue to indicate that the battery is running low.
Skullcandy Dime True Wireless Earbuds Solid Audio Performance
The earphones deliver impressive low-frequency response on tracks with massive sub-bass content, such as The Knife "Silent Shout." The track does not distort at high, unwise listening levels, and its depth is robust and powerful at lower, more reasonable volumes. The highs appear to be well-balanced here, matching the lows without becoming overly bass focused.
Bill Callahan "Drover," which has far less deep bass in the mix, gives us a better sense of the Dime overall sound signature. On bass forward in ears, the drums on this track can sound overly thunderous, but Skullcandy strikes the right balance here. Sure, there some serious boosting going on, but it's all in the name of giving the drums a robust, round sound. Things never get to be unnaturally thunderous. Callahan baritone vocals are complemented by a rich low-mid presence and a crisp high-mid edge. Acoustic strums and higher register percussive hits have a good amount of high-mid detail and brightness. Things lean toward the lows, but they never sound muddy—enough there definition in the high-mids and highs to keep the mix's basic clarity.
The kick drum loop on Jay-Z and Kanye West "No Church in the Wild" receives enough high-mid presence in its attack to retain its punchiness, while the vinyl crackle and hiss, which is usually relegated to the background, seems to take a step forward in the mix—so it appears there some sculpting going on in the highs rather than across-the-board boosting. The sub bass synth hits that punctuate the beat have a solid sense of subwoofer like thunder without going full-on mega-bass. We get a good sense of the scope of the lows without them overpowering the rest of the mix. The vocals on this track are delivered with solid clarity and possibly a hint of sibilance. The vocals on this track are delivered with solid clarity and perhaps a touch of sibilance, but they never seem to compete with the somewhat pumped-up lows.
Orchestral tracks have a bright, rich sound, such as the opening scene of John Adams' The Gospel According to the Other Mary. Lower-register instrumentation is boosted but not pushed to extremes. The higher-register brass, strings, and vocals have their usual crisp, bright presence that commands the spotlight. In general, this is a well-balanced sound signature with rich lows and bright highs. There's a lot of sculpting, but it's evenly distributed across the frequency spectrum. The sound signature is not for purists, but for $25, it sounds surprisingly good.
Surprisingly good intelligibility is provided by the microphone. We were able to understand every word we recorded using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 8 without any problems. There was some Bluetooth distortion that fuzzed up the edges of words, but this is to be expected, and the mic signal was relatively strong compared to what we typically hear from true wireless earphone mics.
The Most Affordable Wire-Free Earbuds
The Dime True Wireless Earbuds from Skullcandy deliver a strong, balanced, rich, and brilliant sound characteristic for $25. There's not much else to say, but the audio is far superior to what you'd expect for the price. The controls are a pain to use, and the construction is shoddy at best, but the most crucial feature—the audio—punches well above its weight class. Other true wireless earbuds under $50 are the JLab Go Air ($30) and the Tribit FlyBuds 3 ($35).
Our verdict for the Skullcandy Dime True wireless earbuds
After reviewing the Skullcandy Dime True wireless earbuds, we can only conclude that this gadget is a compact and lightweight earphone that can be purchased for a reasonable price. The audio quality on this bud is fantastic. The best part about this device is how easily it can be taken around. The battery on these buds isn't terrible for the money; you can use them for four hours on earphones and up to six hours with the charging case.
