Global PC shipments grew 15% in 2021

PC sales were expected to decline in 2021 due to chip shortages globally, but instead of declining sales, the year saw an increase in terms of PC shipments globally, reaching 341 million units.

According to the latest report by Canalys, PC shipments for the year 2021 have grown by 15 percent as compared to 2020 and 27 percent as compared to shipments in 2019. Even though the Q4 2021 numbers were up only 1 percent over the previous year, 2021 was still there. Best year since 2012.

Ishaan Dutt, a senior analyst at Canalys, says in the report: “Despite a relentless cloud of supply constraints, how strong PC demand has been over the past 12 months to post double-digit growth in the market in an impressive 2020, talks about it"

Lenovo emerged as the leading brand capturing 24.1 percent market share, while HP is at the second position with 21.7 percent market share. Dell took third place with its 17.4 percent market share.

Apple is fourth with an 8.5 percent market share, but the Cupertino based technology giant's biggest year-on-year growth number was 28.3 percent. Acer was second with a growth of 21.8 per cent but is fifth in terms of shipments with a share of 7.1 percent.

It is being reported that the education market may become saturated and chip shortages are expected to continue in the new year, which could stifle growth. However, Canalys still believes that 2022 will be a strong year for PC sales.
