The Xiaomi 12 series is one of the first adopters of the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. But with a device as a flagship offering top-notch specifications and features, it looks like the pricing could be higher than its predecessor.
According to @ on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website), most brands other than Motorola will launch smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which will cost over 4,000 yuan (approximately US$630). Obviously, only a few smartphone makers who were able to list the latest chipsets before the new year will be able to offer their flagships under the 4,000 Yuan price point.
On the other hand, brands that release their devices later will face an increase in chip costs due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductors. As of now, the Chinese tech giant is expected to launch three models in the Xiaomi 12 series. While the lineup was initially expected to be the first to launch a device with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, Motorola upcoming Edge X30 series will actually be the first.
Furthermore, the tipster also said that the Moto Edge X30 could be priced under 4,000 Yuan. In other words, it puts more pressure on Xiaomi with respect to the pricing at which it launches its latest flagship. Last year, the company's 11 series started at 3,999 yuan. However, with the rising cost of materials, lack of chips and other supply chain issues, the 12 Series could be priced starting at 4,299 Yuan (approximately US$680). The tipster also said that handsets with 2K panels could cost 5,000 yuan (about $790) or more.
