Vivo appears to be working on an extendable phone that will compete with Samsung and other manufacturers foldable phones. Vivo has applied for a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization. According to the patent application, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is working on a smartphone with an extendable display. This could be similar to the Oppo X 2021 phone rollable screen.
More and more smartphone manufacturers have recently jumped on the foldable phone bandwagon in an effort to tighten their grip on the smartphone space. As a result, the market is teeming with all kinds of handsets with screens that can be folded and unfolded based on the needs of the user. Aside from that, consumers have shown a strong preference for rollable concept handsets. Furthermore, according to 91mobiles, the future of smartphones will be sliding screens rather than foldable screens.

Vivo Working On A New Extendable Phone
The aforementioned patent was submitted in May of this year. On December 2, it was then published. According to the patent drawings obtained by 91mobiles, the device will have an extendable display. Furthermore, the extendable display appears to be able to expand from the right. As a result, the screen expands, providing more screen real estate for content. According to DTNext, Vivo was granted a patent with WIPO earlier this year for a unique design that shows a phone with a detachable under-display front camera module.

Extendable phones are not a new concept. Oppo has already shown its expandable phones. However, a commercial tool still hasn't caught on. The Vivo expandable phone protrudes from the right edge. It can be cut back when not in use. There is a possibility that the screen expands while performing various tasks such as watching videos, reading documents or opening the camera app. Also, it appears that the device is using the motor to bring up the hidden screen during specific tasks.

What Else To Expect?
However, there may be an option to manually summon the hidden screen whenever the user needs it. The right spine houses the USB Type-C port, while the speaker grille is available at the top. Similarly, a rectangular module at the back accommodates multiple camera sensors. In addition, the front panel has a punch-hole cutout that will house the selfie camera. Considering that Vivo patented the design earlier this year, it is unclear whether the company is ready to launch a commercial phone in the next few months.

Vivo, on the other hand, has a reputation for adopting cutting-edge smartphone designs. Apart from that, foldable phones are expected to be the next big thing. To put it another way, the Vivo extensible phone design may see the light of day soon. When it comes to taking photos, viewing videos, playing games, reading e-books, and other comparable things, the extra screen real estate will provide a superior experience.
